Professor Gian Luca Garagnani graduated in Industrial Chemistry in 1979 from the University of Bologna with the highest honors.

From 1979 to 1998, he conducted research and teaching activities at the Institute of Metallurgy of the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry at the University of Bologna, first as an ATA fellow (Associazione Tecnica dell'Automobile, Turin), and then as a University Researcher (1983-1997). From the academic year 1991/1992 to 1997/1998, he was appointed as a substitute lecturer for the Metallurgy course at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ferrara.

Since 1998, he has been a professor in the scientific discipline of "Metallurgy" (ING-IND/21) at the Department of Engineering of the University of Ferrara, first as an Associate Professor (1998-2004) and then, from 2005, as a Full Professor.
